 Mike Hayle

Chief Executive, Metrix

As the Chief Executive of Metrix, Mike leads the joint venture created by QinetiQ and Land Securities
Trillium which was selected by the MoD in January 2007 to deliver the 25 year, £16 billion, Defence Training Review programme.  This is a Public Private Partnership to modernise the delivery of professional and trade training in the military and the continued professional development of the armed forces.

This team is staffed with subject experts from the two sponsors, and consortium partners AgustaWestland, City & Guilds, Dalkia, EDS, Laing O’Rourke, Nord Anglia Education, Open University, Raytheon, Serco, and Sodexho.

Mike joined Metrix from the MoD in 2005 where he was Chief Executive of ABRO, the defence engineering services business.  Recruited from the private sector in 2001 to lead ABRO from a government agency to a more commercial status, Mike reported directly to the Minister for the Armed Forces.  In 2002, Mike led the transition to Trading Fund, creating a business with a turnover of £150 million and a staff of 2,500.

Mike is also Deputy Chairman of Specialist Aviation Services Ltd, which provides much of the police and air ambulance aviation support to the UK.

After time in the Army, culminating in the command of the British Contingent in the Sinai peace keeping force, Mike was the managing director of a variety of businesses in consumer goods and aerospace.  He has an MA from Cambridge, where he read engineering, and an MBA from Manchester.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, and is a Member of the Association for Project Management, Chartered Institute of Marketing, and the Institute of Directors.
