(Virtual) Global Britain – Polarisation, Grey Zone and Hybrid Conflict

A Virtual Cityforum Intelligent Defence Programme:

Global Britain – Polarisation, Grey Zone and Hybrid Conflict

  • What reappraisal of the world does Covid19 necessitate?
  • What are the particular threats to and opportunities for Global Britain?
  • What can defence and its security partners contribute to safety and stability in
a fractured world, at a fractious time?

Cityforum’s Intelligent Defence and Smart Power Series is running for it’s third consecutive year.  The 2020 series includes two programmes of podcasts and ‘webclaves’ (invitation only virtual discussions held under the Chatham House Rule) arranged by Cityforum with guidance from the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) of MOD.  The first programme ‘Reimagining British Defence 2020 – 2030’ can be viewed here.  The themes for ‘Global Britain and Effect in the Grey Zone’ can be viewed below under ‘agenda’.

Anthony Cordesman, an authoritative America contributor to Cityforum events, has shared with us a short study highlighting the focus on U.S. competition with China and Russia in grey area, hybrid, irregular, and multi-domain warfare, and the full version of a Russia-China competition study. These are interesting for Cityforum in terms of it’s Grey Zone work:

Hybrid-Multi-Gray Ops 11.20

U.S.-Chinese- Russian Competition 22.8.20

To allow a virtual discussion under the Chatham House Rule, the webclaves are invitation only discussions with a small number of participants.  Registration for the webinars is available to everyone, and the podcasts and a summary report written at the end of the series will be available to all.
